About the event

Join me for a 23.9 mile hike along the beautiful Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore!  This hike is part of the North Country Trail system and has spectacular views of Lake Superior and Pictured Rocks that you just can't get without going backcountry.  This is an opportunity to get out in nature, take a break from the to-do lists, connect with yourself and spend some time with other strong and empowered women.  Our tentative itinerary is as follows:

What is NOT included:

-meals

-equipment: To get an idea of things you may need copy and paste this web address into a new tab/window:  (https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/backpacking-checklist.html)    ***You will not need everything on this list but it serves as a good guide.  I will be sending out a list with items we may be able to share or will only need a few of (such as stoves, water filter, bear spray...). I am happy to answer any questions you have about gear you will need if this is your first time backpacking or if you have questions

-transportation to Pictured Rocks (but I will be putting out ride share info for people who want to ride with other partipants)

-$20 entry fee to Miner's Castle (I think a National Park pass can also be used if you have one)

Note:

While first time backpackers are welcome on this retreat, the trail is moderate in difficulty and participants should be able to carry all of their equipment up hills, through sand and, depending on weather, through muddy areas.  I highly recommend practicing walking long distances in the shoes you will be wearing on this hike to make sure they're broken in beforehand.  I also recommend carrying your pack on some walks so you're used to carrying extra weight prior to the trip as well.  At times we will be miles away from any sort of help or exit point.  It is each participant's responsibility to make sure they are in good enough physical shape to be able to complete all 23.9 miles.  I also cannot predict bugs/wildlife/weather.  Please review the following guide to get an idea of what can be expected on this trip: https://www.nps.gov/piro/planyourvisit/upload/Backcountry_Travel_Planner_2021_508.pdf
